Alkumru Dam, Embankment dam and hydroelectric station in Siirt Province, Turkey
The Alkumru Dam is an embankment dam on the Botan River in Siirt Province that creates a large reservoir behind its structure. The facility harnesses flowing water through turbines to generate electricity while also supporting agricultural irrigation systems across the surrounding area.
Construction began in 2008 and the facility was officially opened in 2011 by government leaders. The project emerged during Turkey's broader push to develop hydroelectric resources across eastern regions.
The dam represents a major advancement in Turkish infrastructure development, serving as an educational destination for engineering students and professionals.
The dam is accessible by road from the surrounding region but entry to the facility itself is restricted for safety reasons. Best views are obtained from public vantage points along the approach routes.
The structure contains 13 million cubic meters of material and ranks as the fifth largest dam in Turkey, measuring 134 meters from foundation to top.
