Presidential Palace of Turkey, Official residence in Ankara, Turkey.
The Presidential Palace of Turkey is a government residence in Yenimahalle, northwestern Ankara, comprising more than one thousand rooms across several connected buildings. The main structures use reinforced concrete with marble and granite cladding, while formal gardens spread across the grounds.
The residence opened on October 29, 2014, during Republic Day and replaced the former Çankaya palace as the official seat of the presidency. A coup attempt in July 2016 caused damage to the compound through bombing attacks during the night.
The prayer hall serves daily worship and can accommodate a full congregation during Friday services, while interiors feature traditional stone craftsmanship paired with contemporary lines. Visitors notice the blend of Ottoman motifs with present-day forms in publicly accessible sections of the compound.
The compound lies in the Yenimahalle district north of central Ankara and remains closed to the public except during scheduled guided tours. The area is secured by checkpoints and monitoring systems, so visitors should arrange official clearance in advance.
A monument honoring the 15th of July now stands within the compound, memorializing those killed during the failed coup. The library holds five million volumes, making it the largest collection in the country housed under one roof.
