Hualien City

Hualien City stretches along the Pacific Ocean coastline, bordered by mountains to the west and featuring a tropical monsoon climate with year-round rainfall.

The area transformed from an aboriginal settlement called Kilai into a structured city during Japanese administration in 1912, incorporating surrounding villages into its territory.
