Rage, Steel roller coaster at Adventure Island in Southend-on-Sea, England
Rage is a steel roller coaster at Adventure Island in Southend-on-Sea, built by the German manufacturer Gerstlauer, featuring three inversions: a vertical loop and a heartline roll. The track runs over steep drops and tight turns on a compact layout close to the North Sea seafront.
The ride opened in 2007, replacing a log flume that had previously occupied the same spot in the park. In the years since, it has grown into the most recognizable attraction at Adventure Island.
The ride towers above everything else in Adventure Island and can be spotted from the seafront. On busy days, it draws crowds who gather to watch the trains go through the inversions before deciding whether to queue.
The ride can close during strong winds or bad weather, which is fairly common on the North Sea coast. Checking the park's website or social media before you visit saves time and avoids disappointment on the day.
The first drop after the lift hill is angled at 97 degrees, meaning it goes just past vertical so riders tilt slightly forward during the fall. This makes it one of only a handful of roller coasters in the United Kingdom with an overbanked drop of that kind.
