Lanrick Castle, Historic castle ruins in Kilmadock, Scotland

Lanrick Castle was a structure on the south bank of River Teith, roughly 3 miles northwest of Doune. The site combined original construction from 1790 with Gothic additions from 1815 designed by architect James Gillespie Graham.

The original structure was built in 1790 and received Gothic additions in the 1810s that modernized its appearance. Ownership passed from the Haldane family to the MacGregor family before eventually being acquired by Member of Parliament Robert Jardine.

The estate features a stone monument topped with Roman Doric columns, reflecting early 19th-century architectural traditions in Scotland. The structure shows how classical design elements were valued by those who owned the land.

The site sits on the south bank of River Teith in a rural area outside Doune, making it accessible mainly by country roads. Be aware that the riverside location means the ground can be damp, especially after rain.

A devastating fire in April 1994 destroyed the roof and severely damaged the structure. The remaining ruins were demolished in February 2002, leaving little trace of the building as visitors might have known it.
