Bardowie Castle

Bardowie Castle is a stone tower house on the northern shore of Bardowie Loch with architectural elements from the 16th through 18th centuries. The building includes multiple reception rooms, bedrooms, and modern amenities added through renovations over the years.

The castle was owned by Clan Galbraith from 1214 until the late 14th century, when it passed through marriage to John Hamilton of Cadzow. This transfer marked a shift between two influential families in the region.

The castle shows traditional Scottish tower house design with thick walls and defensive features that were adapted for living over centuries. This building style reflects how local noble families lived and protected themselves in the Scottish Lowlands.

The property sits about 2 kilometers east of Milngavie and offers direct access to Bardowie Loch. The grounds are laid out to let you explore the surrounding area and enjoy views from the water.
