Blackpool Mecca

Blackpool Mecca was a dance hall venue located on Central Drive with a spacious interior and acoustics designed for live music and dancing. The building provided room for large numbers of visitors during evening events throughout the week.

This venue opened in 1965 and its Highland Room section became a major Northern Soul destination during the 1970s. The growing popularity drew dancers from across the region who sought out the music and dancing experience it offered.

This venue became a hub where people gathered to dance to Northern Soul records selected by resident DJs who introduced listeners to classic tracks. The music and dancing shaped how a generation experienced nightlife and created a strong community around the sound.

Events typically ran on Saturday evenings and continued into the early morning hours, making it different from other dance venues of that era. Visitors should wear comfortable clothes for dancing and prepare for crowds during peak hours.

In 1977 a sports club opened within the building, adding snooker tables and other recreational facilities to the venue. This expansion gave visitors more options beyond dancing and music.
