The Blackpool Mecca stands on Central Drive, featuring a grand dance hall with excellent acoustics and a large performance space for musical events.
First opened in 1965, the Highland Room within Blackpool Mecca established itself as a primary Northern Soul music destination throughout the 1970s.
The venue introduced numerous classic Northern Soul records through its resident DJs Ian Levine and Colin Curtis, shaping the development of Modern Soul music.
The venue operated regular Saturday evening events from 8 PM until 2 AM, offering a different schedule from other Northern Soul clubs of the period.
In 1977, the Commonwealth Sporting Club opened within the Mecca, providing 25 snooker tables alongside boxing, squash, and badminton facilities.
