Cliftonhill, Football stadium in Coatbridge, Scotland
Cliftonhill is the home ground of Albion Rovers Football Club, positioned on a slope above Main Street in Coatbridge. The main stand offers roughly 1,200 seats, with additional viewing areas in the paddock section and standing terraces at the Airdrie End.
The ground opened in 1919 and saw its largest crowd of around 27,000 spectators in 1936 during a match against Rangers. This period represented the peak of local football attendance in Scotland.
The ground serves as a meeting place for local football supporters and keeps alive traditional ways of watching Scottish football. You will notice the close connection between players and fans that defines smaller clubs in the region.
Spectator areas are limited to the main stand, paddock, and standing terraces, with the site easily accessible from Main Street. You should know that capacity is modest and facilities are basic, so arriving early is helpful on match days.
The grounds hosted speedway racing, greyhound racing, and stock car events until the late 1980s, showing how sports venues in Scotland once hosted diverse competitions. These non-football uses have now disappeared but shaped the venue's past in surprising ways.
