Airdrie, Stirling Street, Sir John Wilson Town Hall
Airdrie, Stirling Street, Sir John Wilson Town Hall, Category B listed town hall in Airdrie, Scotland.
Sir John Wilson Town Hall is a stone town hall in Airdrie featuring a six-stage steeple positioned above its central section. The ground floor displays channeled masonry with twin Tuscan columns framing the main entrance.
Steel factory owner Sir John Wilson donated this building to Airdrie in 1912 as a public gift. The architectural firm James Thomson and Sons created its distinctive design with the prominent steeple.
The building serves as a social hub where residents gather for concerts, weddings, and community events. It remains a place where local life unfolds through shared celebrations and public meetings.
The location is straightforward to access with a cafe offering hot meals and drinks from Monday through Saturday. Plan time to explore both the main hall and the smaller upper-level space, as they host different types of events.
A 2013 renovation project added modern stage equipment, flying grids, and specialized lighting systems while maintaining the original historic character. This blend of old and new allows the space to serve both heritage preservation and contemporary performances.
