Craigysgafn

Craigysgafn is a rocky summit in the Moelwynion range, with steep slopes and rough paths leading to the top. The terrain becomes increasingly exposed as you climb higher, offering views across the surrounding peaks.

The mountain served as a natural landmark for the Gwynedd region over centuries, with its distinctive outline recognized across the surrounding landscape. Local communities used the peak as a reference point for navigation and territorial boundaries.

Local mountaineering groups maintain traditional hiking routes through Craigysgafn, connecting communities and preserving regional walking heritage.

The route begins from the parking area at Tanygrisiau and passes the Llyn Stwlan reservoir before climbing uphill. The path becomes slippery in wet conditions and proper footwear is important for navigating rocky sections safely.

From the summit you can see two neighboring peaks in close proximity, forming a distinctive mountain cluster together with this peak. This proximity allows walkers to explore multiple summits during a single outing.
