Ysgafell Wen, Mountain summit in Dolwyddelan, Wales
Ysgafell Wen is a mountain summit that rises to 672 meters (2205 feet) with steep drops into the Cwm Edno valley and small lakes nearby. The terrain around the top is open and grassy with multiple peak points clustered together.
The mountain is part of the Moelwynion range where Welsh shepherds have maintained sheep pastures for generations across these hills. This area has served as grazing land for centuries within the broader Snowdonia region.
The Welsh name means 'white ledge', showing how local language has always described these hills. People in nearby valleys still depend on these uplands for their everyday work and traditions.
The summit is reached through hiking routes that start from valleys below and take several hours to complete. Carrying a good map and weather-appropriate clothing is essential, especially when visibility is poor on the ridge.
The summit is actually not a single point but consists of three distinct tops clustered within 700 meters of each other. This arrangement makes hiking here unusual since visitors often explore multiple peaks instead of just reaching one goal.
