Dale Fort, Artillery fort in Dale Point, Pembrokeshire, United Kingdom
Dale Fort is an artillery fortification situated on Dale Point in Pembrokeshire, built with brick and granite construction. The structure features a central barrack block with two perpendicular wings and retains original vaulted fire-proof spaces throughout.
The fort was constructed between 1851 and 1857 under orders from Lord Palmerston to protect Milford Haven from potential naval attacks. It formed part of a broader defensive network built around the strategic harbor during a period of heightened military concern.
The structure represents a key example of Victorian military architecture and forms part of the network of defensive fortifications around Milford Haven.
The site sits on elevated ground at a protruding headland with good views across the harbor and coastline. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear as the terrain is uneven and includes stone steps throughout the structure.
The fort received heritage protection in 1997, despite being technically outdated before its construction even finished. This late recognition reflects how appreciation for military architecture evolved over time.
