Eric's Club, Music venue in Mathew Street, Liverpool, England
Eric's Club was a music venue in the basement of a building on Mathew Street, situated across from the famous Cavern Club. The space featured raw concrete walls and low lighting that created an intimate setting for live performances.
The club was founded in 1976 and quickly became a center for punk and post-punk music until it closed in 1980. During these four years, it shaped a generation of musicians and fans who would transform British rock music.
The venue served as a gathering place for music fans seeking new sounds, attracting visitors from across the region. It fostered connections between performers and audiences that would shape the local music scene for years to come.
Entry to the club required membership, and afternoon shows were held specifically for visitors under 18 years old. This allowed younger music fans to experience live performances and become part of the scene.
The final concert featured The Psychedelic Furs performing with Wah Heat, recorded for John Peel's radio show. Police subsequently closed the venue, bringing an influential era of live music to an unexpected end.
