Erw y Ddafad-ddu

Erw y Ddafad-ddu is a mountain summit in the Aran range standing at 872 meters, with rocky ground and a small stone cairn marking the top. The peak offers exposed terrain and connects to nearby mountains through established hiking paths.

This peak forms part of the ancient Aran mountain range in southern Snowdonia, shaped by millions of years of geological activity. The landscape bears the marks of ice age glaciation and erosion that carved its current appearance.

The Welsh name means 'the field of the black sheep', a reference to the sheep farming that has shaped this landscape for generations. Walking here, you can see how grazing animals and pastoral life remain woven into the terrain itself.

Hikers can reach the summit using marked trails that connect to the neighboring peaks Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn in a larger walking circuit. The nearest town is Bala, which serves as a convenient base for planning your visit.

This peak ranks as the third highest in the Aran range, yet remains less visited than its more prominent neighboring summits. The quieter status makes it an appealing choice for those seeking a more solitary mountain experience.
