Aran Fawddwy, Mountain summit in Gwynedd, Wales
Aran Fawddwy rises to 905 meters, making it the highest mountain in Wales south of Snowdon and features steep eastern cliffs above Creiglyn Dyfi lake.
The mountain holds a memorial cairn on its eastern ridge commemorating Michael Robert Aspain, an RAF Mountain Rescue team member who died from lightning in 1960.
The mountain forms part of the principal ridge connecting Dolgellau and Bala in southern Snowdonia, representing a significant geographical landmark in Welsh mountaineering traditions.
Most hikers access the summit from the Cwm Cywarch car park, following marked paths through Hengwm and Drws Bach to reach the mountain peak.
The eastern slopes contain Creiglyn Dyfi, a small lake that marks the source of River Dyfi, which flows through Wales toward the coastal town of Aberdyfi.
