Stob Coire a' Chàirn

Stob Coire a' Chàirn, Mountain summit in Highland, Scotland.

Stob Coire a' Chàirn is a mountain in Scotland's Mamores range, connected to neighboring peaks by several ridges that create a dramatic skyline. The slopes feature steep gullies, rocky terrain, and patches of alpine plants adapted to the exposed summit environment.

The mountain was absent from official Ordnance Survey maps for many years despite its prominent location in the Mamores, eventually gaining recognition through later surveys. This delayed mapping reflects how selective early cartographic work was in this remote mountain area.

The Scottish Gaelic name refers to 'Peak of the Corrie of the Cairn', reflecting how this region traditionally named its mountains and landforms to describe their physical appearance.

Hikers can start from Kinlochleven and follow marked paths through Coire na Ba valley to reach the eastern ridge, which provides the main ascent route. The terrain is rocky and exposed, so visitors should be prepared for sudden weather changes and bring proper mountain gear.

The summit is part of the Ring of Steall, a ridge walk connecting eight Munros along a main spine with two additional eastern outliers included in the circuit. This arrangement makes it a classic objective for experienced mountaineers seeking a multi-peak day.
