RAF Chicksands is a military installation in Bedfordshire that occupies a large site and now operates as a Defense Intelligence and Security Centre. The facility focuses on training British Armed Forces personnel in various intelligence disciplines and related security matters.
The station was established in 1936 and played a key role during World War II in intercepting German military communications through radio surveillance. After the war, it was leased to the United States Air Force in 1950 and became an important site for intelligence operations.
The base takes its name from Chicksands Priory, a medieval monastery from the 12th century that still stands within the installation grounds as a reminder of the area's religious past. Visitors can observe these remains, which add a layer of older heritage to the modern military facilities.

From 1962 to 1996, a large circular antenna array known as the Elephant Cage stood on the grounds, used for monitoring radio signals over long distances. This striking structure dominated the landscape and was one of the most technically advanced installations of its era.
