The SAP Center is a multipurpose facility in downtown San Jose, California, that holds over 19,000 spectators. The building features multiple tiers with different seating categories and a large video system suspended above the ice surface.
The facility opened its doors in September 1993 and was originally called San Jose Arena before receiving different names through sponsorship agreements. The software company SAP purchased naming rights in 2013 and gave the building its current title.
The facility serves as home to the San Jose Sharks and is regarded by hockey fans across the Bay Area as an important gathering point. On game nights, surrounding streets fill with people wearing teal jerseys making their way to the venue.
Visitors find parking around the building with main access through Santa Clara Street and Julian Street. On event days, arriving early is advisable as entrances can become crowded before start times.
Before the 2022-23 season began, the entire video system was replaced with modern LED screens that are visible from almost every seat. This change improved viewing significantly, especially for slow-motion replays and game statistics during breaks.
