Camp Toccoa, Military training facility in Stephens County, Georgia, United States.
Camp Toccoa is a military training facility on Currahee Mountain in Georgia, where wooden structures include a preserved mess hall and water tower. The grounds extend along the slopes of the mountain and retain elements of the original layout.
The facility opened in 1942 and served during World War II as a training ground for four paratrooper regiments. More than 17,000 soldiers prepared here for their European deployment before the camp closed in 1944.
The training site of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment gained recognition through the television series Band of Brothers. Visitors today walk the same paths that soldiers used during their preparation.
The Colonel Robert F. Sink memorial trail starts at the camp grounds and leads to the summit of Currahee Mountain. The path follows the historic route and offers insight into the physical preparation soldiers underwent.
Soldiers completed daily runs up and down Currahee Mountain, following the mantra Three Miles Up, Three Miles Down. The gradient and distance made this route one of the most demanding physical tests in the training program.
