The land was originally owned by Edwin A. Lemp as part of Cragwold estate before Russell E. Emmenegger purchased and donated it to Kirkwood in 1975.
The park functions as an educational space where visitors learn about Missouri's native flora through marked trails and observation opportunities.
Visitors can access designated parking areas and utilize a one-mile hiking trail or a half-mile disabled-accessible path through the natural landscape.
The property previously served as an exotic animal breeding facility for the St. Louis Zoo before transforming into its current conservation role.
