Fishers Island Club, Private golf club on Fishers Island, New York.
Fishers Island Club is a private golf club on an island off the coast of New York with 18 holes laid across coastal terrain overlooking two sounds. The course winds through dunes and brush with water views from many locations around the property.
Seth Raynor designed the course in 1926 but died that same year, after which his partner Charles Banks completed the project. The design emerged during an era when coastal golf courses were rare and required careful planning.
The club is shaped by a closed community that values privacy and long-standing traditions. Visitors sense the exclusive feel and respect for established customs throughout the grounds.
Visitors need to take a ferry from New London in Connecticut to reach the island, as its remote location makes this the only arrival option. It helps to check ferry schedules in advance and allow extra time for the crossing.
The course features the only hole design named after American golf architect Latimer found anywhere in the world. A nearby lighthouse shapes the landscape and gives the location a distinctive maritime landmark.
