Fort H. G. Wright

The fort represents the evolution of American military engineering, demonstrating the shift from traditional coastal artillery to modern defense systems during two world wars.

Visitors can access the former military site by ferry from Connecticut, where they can examine preserved gun batteries and repurposed administrative buildings.

The fort housed experimental 15-inch dynamite guns, which used compressed air to launch projectiles filled with dynamite at enemy vessels.
