Fort George, Colonial defense fortification in Brunswick, United States
Fort George featured a ten-foot-high wall constructed with lime mortar, positioned strategically near the Androscoggin River and Brunswick Falls.
Built in 1715 on the remains of Fort Andross, the fortification protected settlers from Native American tribes during a period of territorial conflicts.
The site transformed from a military stronghold to Maine's first cotton mill in 1809, marking the beginning of industrial development in Brunswick.
The former fort location now houses office and retail spaces under the name Fort Andross, maintaining its connection to local commerce.
In 2023, the building received a mural depicting eight different cultural groups who inhabited the area throughout its extensive history.
