Glendale National Cemetery

Glendale National Cemetery sits southeast of Richmond and features white headstones arranged in orderly concentric rows across a rectangular site. The grounds include administrative buildings and are surrounded by trees and open spaces that create a quiet setting for reflection.

The cemetery was founded in 1866 on land that previously served as a Union military command center during the Civil War. Over 1,000 soldiers from various battles were buried there initially, transforming the site into a lasting memorial.

Medal of Honor recipient Corporal Michael Fleming Folland from the Vietnam War is buried here among the graves. His resting place represents the highest military honors preserved at this location.
