Granot Loma, Historic lodge on Lake Superior in Michigan, United States
Granot Loma is a large residence positioned directly on Lake Superior's shoreline in Michigan, constructed with timber framing and stone walls. The building contains many rooms and a private marina, all situated within extensive woodland and along a lengthy beach.
A wealthy businessman started constructing the residence in the early 1920s and hired European craftspeople to complete this ambitious project. The property emerged during a period of grand construction throughout America and continues to shape the architectural character of this shoreline area.
The interior displays regional artwork and objects that reflect the heritage of the Great Lakes area. These collections show how this place connects to local traditions and the stories of people who lived here.
The property spreads across woodland with direct shoreline access and a private beach, allowing visitors to explore the natural surroundings. Wear sturdy footwear for uneven terrain and prepare for variable weather conditions typical of the lakeside location.
The main hall of the residence features an extraordinary ceiling decoration made from carved wood that depicts organic shapes and small figures. This elaborate decoration demonstrates the exceptional craftsmanship of the workers who contributed to this project.
