The 26,000-square-foot Granot Loma stretches along Lake Superior's shoreline, featuring Oregon pine logs, cement walls, and a steel frame construction.
Financier Louis G. Kaufman initiated the construction in 1919, employing 400 Scandinavian craftsmen to complete this grand residence by 1923 at a cost of $5 million.
The interior displays Native American artifacts, including two 30-foot totem poles and portraits, reflecting the regional heritage of the Great Lakes area.
The estate encompasses 5,180 acres of woodland, 50 rooms, a private marina, and a mile-long beach, providing extensive opportunities for outdoor activities.
The Great Room extends 60 feet in length, crowned by a chandelier crafted from a giant tree root with intricate wood carvings of insects and animals.
