The four-story red brick building on Altamont Street features a decorative sandstone entrance and large windows overlooking Lake Superior.
Built in 1915 for $100,000, the orphanage housed 200 children from Michigan's Upper Peninsula until its closure in 1967.
The institution initially housed Native American children transferred from Assinins and later provided shelter to Cuban refugees during Operation Pedro Pan.
The structure underwent a $15.8 million renovation in 2018, transforming into Grandview Apartments with 56 residential units.
The original chapel remains intact as a community space within the apartment complex, preserving a portion of the building's religious heritage.
