Gruenewald House

The Gruenewald House is a three-story Second Empire building at 626 Main Street with original architectural features from its construction. The exterior displays distinctive elements of this style including a mansard roof and ornamental details that define its appearance.

The original building dates to 1860 when Moses Cherry began construction, before Martin Gruenewald added the front section in 1873. The Gruenewald family then occupied the residence for five decades afterward.

The rooms contain furnishings from the 1890s that show how the family lived during that period. Walking through, visitors notice how daily life was organized in a prosperous household of that era.

The dining area accommodates about twelve people for seated events and can hold up to thirty guests for receptions. The room layout allows flexible use for different types of gatherings.

The property includes a heritage garden and houses a collection of Civil War documents alongside family memorabilia. These holdings reveal lesser-known connections between the residence and regional historical events.
