Paramount Theatre, Movie theater in Anderson, United States.
The Paramount Theatre is a historic movie theater on Meridian Street in Anderson, Indiana, built in the atmospheric theater style with a decorated ceiling designed to resemble a night sky with stars. The auditorium features Spanish village-style decor, including ornate arches, wall niches, and a richly decorated proscenium.
The theater was designed by architect John Eberson and opened in 1929, a time when he was known across the US for his atmospheric theater designs. When it opened, it was part of the Publix chain operated by Paramount Pictures.
The Paramount Theatre still has its original Page organ, which is played at special events and fills the hall with sound. The venue hosts films, concerts, and local performances, making it a gathering point for the Anderson community.
The main floor offers wheelchair accessible seating, but reaching the mezzanine and balcony requires climbing stairs. When booking, it is worth checking which section of the theater best suits your needs before arriving.
The Paramount Theatre is one of only around 12 surviving atmospheric theaters in all of North America where the ceiling gives the true impression of an open night sky. This type of design was widespread in the 1920s but has almost entirely disappeared since then.
