Lower Humbert Covered Bridge, Covered bridge in Lower Turkeyfoot Township, US.
Lower Humbert Covered Bridge crosses Laurel Hill Creek using a Burr Arch truss design with wooden beams throughout. The structure spans 126 feet in length and measures about 40 feet (12 meters) wide with a vehicle clearance height of roughly 8 feet (2.4 meters).
Built in 1891, this crossing demonstrates 19th-century bridge engineering from the region. A major reinforcement in 1991 added steel beams and replaced the central support with a concrete pier enclosed in stone.
The bridge forms part of Somerset County's collection of ten remaining covered bridges, representing Pennsylvania's transportation engineering developments from the 19th century.
The crossing has a 3-ton weight limit, so heavier vehicles must use an alternate route. Pedestrians can walk across anytime and enjoy views of the creek from both banks.
Local stories tell of a young girl's ghost that appeared along Humbert Road until road construction disturbed her grave marker near the bridge.
