Little Miami Scenic Trail, Rail trail and state park in southwestern Ohio, United States
The Little Miami Scenic Trail is a rail-to-trail conversion that stretches from Springfield to Anderson Township, following the Little Miami River through forests and open fields. The path accommodates walkers, cyclists, and horseback riders with multiple entry points spread throughout its length.
The trail was created in 1979 from abandoned railroad tracks, with the first section opening to the public in 1984. This conversion of an old transportation corridor turned historic infrastructure into a recreational pathway for communities to share.
Towns along the route like Yellow Springs showcase independent shops and local restaurants where community life happens. These gathering places reflect how people in the region connect with each other and the trail.
Access points are scattered throughout, with parking available at major locations like Yellow Springs Station and Xenia Station. The relatively flat terrain makes the route suitable for all fitness levels, and visitors can plan trips of any length by starting and ending at different access points.
A standout feature is the massive bridge that rises 239 feet (73 meters) above the river, ranking among the highest bridge spans in the state. This structure creates a dramatic vantage point where visitors can survey the river landscape below while crossing.
