Marion E. Wade Center, Literary research center at Wheaton College, Illinois, US.
The Marion E. Wade Center is a research facility at Wheaton College in Illinois dedicated to seven British authors, including C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. Its collection contains rare manuscripts, letters, and personal items from these writers as well as works by G.K. Chesterton, Dorothy L. Sayers, and George MacDonald.
The center was founded in 1965 by Clyde S. Kilby to collect and preserve the works of these British authors. In 2001 it moved into a new building designed to accommodate its growing collection of manuscripts and research materials.
The center houses personal belongings and manuscripts from renowned writers, offering visitors insight into how these authors lived and created their works. These objects help you connect with the individuals behind the books.
Visitors can use the Kilby Reading Room on weekdays to study rare documents and materials from the seven authors. It is advisable to check in advance what collections are available and how long a visit might take.
A dining table from C.S. Lewis's own home is displayed in the exhibition, showing the actual place where many literary discussions and meetings happened. This physical object connects visitors directly to the author's lived environment.
