Mystique, Ice center in Dubuque, United States
Mystique is an ice center in Dubuque, Iowa, built around a single skating rink that seats around 3,200 spectators, with luxury boxes and a dedicated press area. The building also has a lounge with a full bar, giving visitors a place to gather before or after events on the ice.
Construction began in 2009 and the venue opened in 2010 as a new home for ice hockey and other skating events in Dubuque. About 13 years after its opening, the building required major renovation work to repair problems found in its foundation.
Mystique is home to the local hockey team, and on game nights the arena fills with fans from across the Dubuque area. The crowd gathers around the rink in a way that makes the sport feel like a shared local tradition rather than just a spectator event.
Parking is available right next to the building and in a larger lot across the street, though both fill up quickly on busy event nights. Getting there a bit before the event starts makes it easier to find a spot close to the entrance.
The building developed serious foundation problems just a few years after it opened, which is unusual for a venue of its age. The repairs were extensive enough to affect operations and drew attention to the challenges of building on the ground conditions found along the Mississippi River.
