Eagle Point Bridge, Road bridge in Dubuque, United States.
Eagle Point Bridge was a two-lane road bridge that connected Dubuque, Iowa with rural Grant County, Wisconsin across the Mississippi River. The structure served as the main automobile passage between the two states for many decades.
The bridge was organized in 1894 by Joseph A. Rhomberg and opened in 1902 as a toll crossing between the two states. It stood for more than 80 years before being demolished in 1983.
The bridge opening celebration in May 1902 gathered five thousand residents who crossed into Wisconsin for festivities, marking its significance for local communities.
The bridge collected tolls on the Iowa side from drivers crossing into Wisconsin, making it a private toll crossing. Its location near Lock and Dam No. 11 made it a recognizable landmark for travelers in the area.
The bridge was still structurally sound when federal regulations required its demolition in 1982, despite being perfectly functional. This unexpected end came as a surprise to the community that had depended on it for decades.
