Nazareth House

Nazareth House is a three-story brick building in the South Wedge Historic District featuring five bays with red brick construction throughout its facade. The structure displays neoclassical features with symmetrical details and currently functions as a residential complex with multiple apartments.

The building was constructed in 1893 and expanded 18 years later while serving as a facility for education and social work. A conversion to residential apartments in the 1980s preserved the original architecture.

The building reflects architectural practices common in Rochester when social institutions were being established in the late 1800s. The red brick walls and symmetrical design show the style typical of structures built for community services.

The property sits in a historic neighborhood with easy access from nearby streets and pedestrian paths. Visitors should note the building is privately occupied today and interior access is limited.

The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, documenting its regional significance. This recognition honors its role as an example of late 19th-century institutional architecture.
