Nockamixon State Park, State park in Bucks County, United States.
Nockamixon State Park is a large protected landscape in Bucks County centered around a 1,450-acre lake surrounded by rolling hills and dense woodlands. The park covers more than 5,000 acres and contains distinct areas for hiking, camping, and water recreation within its varied terrain of forest and shoreline.
Pennsylvania established this protected landscape in 1973 to provide outdoor recreation and water activities for residents of the Philadelphia region. The lake itself was created by damming in the mid-twentieth century as an important water resource project.
The Environmental Education Center offers visitors programs about local wildlife and forest ecology through guided walks and hands-on workshops. You can learn about the natural rhythms of the landscape and how the wooded areas around the lake support diverse animal life.
The main entrance is located along Pennsylvania Route 563 with access to boat rentals, swimming areas, and hiking trails from the parking areas. Most facilities spread across the park, so plan where you want to go before you arrive to make the best use of your time.
The lake serves as a crucial stopover for migratory waterfowl during their seasonal journeys, with hundreds of birds arriving at different times of year. This makes spring and fall excellent times for bird watchers interested in spotting different species passing through the water.
