Ocean Hill, Residential neighborhood in northern Brooklyn, United States.

Ocean Hill is a residential neighborhood in northern Brooklyn that stretches from Broadway to East New York Avenue. The streets contain a mix of brownstones, townhouses, and modern apartment buildings with different architectural styles.

The neighborhood began as Dutch colonial farmland and transformed into an Italian settlement in the early 1900s. By the 1960s, it became a major center for the African American community.

Street art and murals created by local residents cover many buildings throughout the neighborhood, representing the creative energy of the community. These works reflect the diversity of people who live and work here.

Broadway Junction station provides subway access with the A, C, J, L, and Z lines serving the area. This connection makes it straightforward to travel to other neighborhoods across the city.

In 1968, the Ocean Hill-Brownsville school district pioneered a groundbreaking experiment when the Ford Foundation handed control to local educators and families. This community-led approach to running schools was unusual for that era.
