Opera House, Victorian theater in downtown Cheboygan, Michigan, US.
The Opera House in Cheboygan is a four-story structure of brick and sandstone located on North Huron Street near the Cheboygan River. Inside, the theater holds 582 seats while also serving as city hall, police headquarters, and fire station.
The building was constructed in 1877 and experienced two major fires that destroyed the interior in 1888 and 1903. After each disaster, it was rebuilt while preserving its distinctive Victorian theater architecture and acoustic design.
The building has long been a gathering place for performers and audiences throughout the region. Today it continues to host music and theater productions that shape the community's cultural life.
The box office operates Tuesday through Friday from noon to 4 PM. The building sits in downtown and is easily accessible near the river.
The theater interior still maintains its original 1888 layout, which reflects the sound and sight lines of that era. This setup allows schools and local groups to perform here at lower costs.
