Cheboygan State Park

Cheboygan State Park is a large protected area along Lake Huron's shore in Michigan, featuring forests, wetlands, and dune areas. Several marked hiking trails guide visitors through these different landscape types.

Michigan established this protected area in the 1960s as part of its efforts to preserve natural lands. This decision followed growing awareness of the importance of coastal habitats in the region.

The park offers visitors chances to experience local plant and animal life through its varied natural habitats along the shoreline. Walkers can observe this diversity firsthand as they move through forests, wetlands, and sand dunes.

Visitors have several lodging options available, including modern camping areas, rustic cabins, and traditional round structures. Advance reservations are important since spaces fill quickly, especially during warmer months.

A 19th century lighthouse sits partially preserved along the shoreline, showing old stone foundations and wall fragments. These remains tell a story of shipping and coastal watch from an earlier time.
