Fort de Buade, French colonial fort in Saint Ignace, United States
The Fort de Buade Museum contains over 3,500 artifacts spanning 8,000 years of history, including Native American objects and colonial period items.
Established in 1683 under Governor Joseph-Antoine de La Barre, the fort protected French interests against Iroquois threats and English traders in the Straits of Mackinac.
The museum exhibits display Native American tools from the Woodland period alongside French, British, and American artifacts, representing the region's mixed heritage.
The museum opens from Memorial Day to Labor Day, operating Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with extended hours on Friday until 8:00 PM.
The collection includes the Newberry Tablet and McGruer Stones, which have been featured on television programs examining Native American history.
