Pettingill-Morron House, Second Empire mansion in Moss-High District, Peoria, United States.
The Pettingill-Morron House is a Second Empire brick residence with eleven rooms built in 1868 and a classical-style porch added in 1900. The structure reflects both its original design and later architectural additions that expanded its character.
Moses Pettingill commissioned this house in 1868 following a fire that destroyed his previous residence in 1865. The building was later added to the National Register of Historic Places and documents a century of life in the region.
The house displays collections of paintings and documents from the 1800s that tell the story of wealthy family life in Peoria. Visitors can see how the residents used the rooms and what objects filled their daily lives.
The house is managed by the Peoria Historical Society and can be visited when exploring the west side of Peoria. It is helpful to check ahead about current visiting conditions since tours may vary depending on the season.
Jean Morron, the last private resident, left not only the house but also all its contents to the Peoria Historical Society when she passed away in 1966. This made the property a complete window into the past with original furnishings intact.
