Parque del Litoral

Parque del Litoral is a waterfront park in Mayagüez that extends along the bay with walking paths, an amphitheater, and recreational spaces. The site includes courts for games, a skate facility, and multiple zones designed for visitors to spend time outdoors by the Caribbean Sea.

Construction began in late 2007 and the park opened in 2010, timed to coincide with a major sporting event held in the region. The project transformed how residents and visitors experience the city's relationship with the waterfront.

The park carries the name of Israel 'Shorty' Castro, a beloved Puerto Rican comedian and musician whose memory remains important to the local community. This naming choice reflects how people here honor figures who shaped the island's entertainment and music scene.

The park offers restrooms and multiple activity areas spread across the grounds for different interests and energy levels. Visitors should plan for sun exposure and wear comfortable shoes to explore the various sections comfortably.

The park protects dune forests and wetlands that naturally filter water and shield nearby coral reefs from pollution. These natural features work quietly in the background while people enjoy the shoreline.
