Port Washington Breakwater Light, Art Deco lighthouse in Port Washington, Wisconsin, United States.
Port Washington Breakwater Light is a lighthouse standing on the north breakwater with a square pyramidal steel structure. The tower rises approximately 18 meters tall and connects to the mainland through a concrete walkway.
The lighthouse was originally built in 1889 from wood and received its current Art Deco design in 1935 during harbor improvements. This redesign was connected to the construction of a new steam-electric power plant nearby.
The lighthouse represents maritime navigation evolution from manual operation with Fresnel lenses to modern automated systems that guide vessels through Lake Michigan waters.
The structure continues to function as an active navigation aid and is accessible via the concrete walkway during normal weather. The best time to visit is when conditions are calm enough to safely walk along the breakwater.
In the early 2000s the structure received restoration support from Luxembourg, including a replacement tower and new Fresnel lens. This international partnership highlights how important this maritime landmark remains for navigation.
