Punta de las Figuras Light

Punta de las Figuras Light is an octagonal tower rising from a flat-roofed dwelling painted dark gray with white trim, standing approximately 15 meters tall. The structure contains a residential apartment with several rooms, kitchen facilities, and water supply infrastructure built with brick and stone.

Spanish colonial authorities built this navigation aid in 1893 to guide ships entering the ports of Arroyo and Patillas. The investment reflected the importance of this point for controlling maritime traffic in the region during that period.

The structure displays Neoclassical design with Genoa marble floors and decorative wall carvings that reflect how colonial building styles appeared in this region. These Spanish architectural choices shaped how people understood modern construction and design.

Access to the tower proceeds via a cast-iron spiral staircase leading to the lantern room. The site sits in an active port area near Arroyo, so visitors should come prepared for maritime surroundings and changing weather conditions.

The original lantern lens was manufactured by Barbier, Benard & Cie, a French firm renowned for producing quality light systems for maritime structures worldwide. This fifth-order Fresnel lens represented standard equipment for significant navigational aids of that era.
