Lake Delton

Lake Delton is a reservoir in the community of Lake Delton in Sauk County, Wisconsin, covering more than 100 hectares and linked to the Wisconsin River through Dell Creek. The body of water sits within the Wisconsin Dells region and serves as a central water feature for numerous resorts and recreation facilities along its shores.

A dam was built in the 1920s on Dell Creek to create the present body of water and transform the surroundings into a recreation area. The facility quickly grew into a popular destination for summer visitors from the Midwest.

The lake carries water ski performances that have run since the 1950s and have become part of the regional entertainment tradition. Visitors watch the performances from shoreline zones designed for audiences and still in use today.

Several boat launches and fishing spots are distributed along the shores, allowing convenient water access during the warm months. Most facilities are open from spring through autumn when the weather is suitable for outdoor activities.

In 2008, the entire body of water drained completely into the Wisconsin River due to severe flooding, leaving a dry basin behind. Engineers refilled the lake within a few months and restored the water feature in time for the following summer season.
