Rockland Lake State Park

Rockland Lake State Park is a recreation area in the Hudson Valley featuring a 256-acre lake surrounded by paved walking paths. The grounds include tennis courts, golf courses, and a large swimming pool with diving facilities.

The Knickerbocker Ice Company harvested ice from this lake starting in 1831, supplying it to New York City. This ice production was a major economic activity for the region until it eventually ended.

The park connects with nearby Hook Mountain and beach areas, forming a continuous natural zone where local wildlife makes its home. This interconnected landscape shapes how people experience recreation throughout the region.

The park's paved paths are easy to navigate for all fitness levels and abilities. Facilities are spread throughout the grounds, so you can move between different activity areas without difficulty.

The lake was originally named Quashpeake Pond by Native Americans before later being renamed. This original name reflects the long indigenous history of the place before European influence reshaped its identity.
