Rocket Thrower, Bronze sculpture in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, United States
The 43-foot-tall bronze figure shows a muscular man launching a sphere into the sky while reaching for stars with his left hand.
Created by Donald De Lue for the 1964 New York World's Fair, the sculpture required six months of work and cost $105,000 to complete.
The sculpture represents the human pursuit of space exploration during the 1960s through a combination of classical design and modern themes.
Visitors can find the Rocket Thrower east of the Unisphere in the Hall of Astronauts section of Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.
The 2019 restoration added gold leaf to the constellation of stars above the figure for the first time since its installation.
