Rocky Gap State Park

Rocky Gap State Park is a natural area in Allegany County featuring a large reservoir surrounded by forested ridges and mountain terrain. The 3,000-acre park combines open water with dense woodland, creating varied landscapes throughout its bounds.

The park started in 1963 with land donations from Edward Habeeb and local supporters. The reservoir was completed in 1970 by the Army Corps of Engineers, establishing the water body that defines the park today.

The amphitheater was built to host the Rocky Gap Country Bluegrass Festival and reflects Maryland's connection to traditional music. The space draws visitors who come to experience live bluegrass performances set against wooded hillsides.

The park offers camping, hiking trails, boat rentals, and fishing areas for outdoor activities. Access is straightforward via Interstate 68 at exit 50, making arrival convenient for most visitors.

The park includes a casino resort alongside its natural attractions, blending outdoor recreation with gaming entertainment in one location. This combination sets it apart from conventional state parks in the area.
