Sand Bridge State Park, State park in Lewis Township, Pennsylvania, US
Sand Bridge State Park is a small recreational area in Lewis Township, situated within the boundaries of Bald Eagle State Forest. A stream named Rapid Run flows through the property, and three covered picnic pavilions are available for visitors to use.
The state established this park in 1978 as part of its official parks system. The three picnic pavilions were built during the 1930s by workers from the Civilian Conservation Corps, a Depression-era employment program.
The Civilian Conservation Corps workers constructed the current picnic pavilions during the Great Depression, leaving their mark on this recreational space.
The site is accessible daily from sunrise to sunset with no entry fee required. Visitors should bring trash bags to carry out their own waste, as there are no disposal facilities on the grounds.
At roughly 1.2 hectares, this is the smallest state park in all of Pennsylvania. Its tiny size makes it an overlooked spot that easily gets passed by in favor of larger recreational areas.
