Ravensburg State Park, State park in Crawford Township, Pennsylvania, US
Ravensburg State Park is a natural area of about 78 acres in Crawford Township where Rauchtown Run flows through a sandstone gorge in Nippenose Mountain. The stream winds through the rocky valley surrounded by thick hardwood forest and hemlock groves.
The park was built between 1933 and 1942 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, which constructed stone pavilions, trails, and a dam on Rauchtown Run. This work took place during the Great Depression as part of a national program to create jobs and protect natural areas.
The hardwood forest here features stone structures and log buildings that show how Pennsylvania's parks were traditionally built and maintained. These constructions in stone and rough timber still shape the character of the place today.
The park has 21 tent-only camping sites open from April through October, each with a picnic table and fire ring by Rauchtown Run. The terrain is easy to walk and the paths are clearly marked, suitable for visitors of various experience levels.
Ravens nest on the rocky ledges at the southern end of the park and differ from crows in their larger size and deeper calls. This difference in size and sound makes them easy to spot for careful observers.
