Shawnee State Fishing Lake, Public fishing lake in northern Shawnee County, Kansas, US.
Shawnee State Fishing Lake is a public water body in northern Shawnee County, Kansas, covering about 55 acres with depths reaching up to 25 feet. Thirteen rock jetties extend into the water to create multiple shore fishing locations.
The water body was created in the late 1960s as part of Kansas public water management efforts and became a recreational destination. Since its completion, it has served multiple generations as a gathering place for anglers and outdoor enthusiasts.
The lake draws local fishing enthusiasts who gather regularly to practice their skills and spend time outdoors together. Fish stocking with multiple species reflects its role as a valued resource for the regional community.
Visitors will find primitive camping areas along the shore and a public boat ramp at the southeast corner. Three pit toilets are distributed around the lake to serve both day visitors and those staying overnight.
The east shore houses a hunter education facility with a shooting range where instruction programs are regularly held. This feature makes the location a place where different forms of outdoor learning and practice converge.
